Terra Cotta Wreath

This wreath was probably the first Wreath I have ever made that was not easy.  I don’t know if I would ever make a wreath like this again. (Famous Last Words)

Basically I used a Grape Vine Wreath and used Floral Wire to adhere the pots to the wreath by looping the floral wire through the hole in the bottom of the pot and then wrapping it around a piece of the grapevine.  Then I used a bit of Hot Glue to secure the pot in place.

It turned out Cute but outside in the High Heat a bit of the glue melted and some of the pots started to sag.  I am going to fill the wreath with succulents eventually.

I may (maybe in a few months) attempt to make a smaller one for the Glitter And Mason Jars Store.

But for right now….my fingers are still recovering….

Tips:

Hobby Lobby has packages of Terra Cotta Pots in several different sizes.

I would recommend a different glue, I’ve seen stronger hot glue sticks in stores before.

Lay out your pot arrangement first on a large table then transfer to wreath individually (it took me about three days to finish this wreath but I have a 2 year old)

Fill gaps with small terra cotta pots

Use Moss to hide wires

Good Luck! Please Post a pic on my page: www.Facebook/com/GlitterAndMasonJars if you attempt this :)

My Outer Banks Beach Wedding (Pre-Pinterest)

My husband and I were married on Whalehead Beach located on the Outerbanks of NC.  I still to this day feel very blessed that we had a small and pretty stress free wedding.  I think the hardest part was contacting all the professionals we would need on location from land locked Kansas.  We enjoyed a whole week with our nearest and dearest family and friends in a beautiful beach house and made lots of memories.

I wish Pinterest was around when we were married because there would of been so many more neat things to incorporate in our wedding!  Anyhoo I thought I would share some pictures and a few tips/tricks if you are planning a destination beach wedding.

1)  Even though Pinterest does have lots of ideas for decorating on your special day I would keep beach decorations to a minimum.  But definitely add special touches for Guests/Wedding party I made guest gift baskets and I used a vintage umbrella in some of my pictures but it wasn’t a prop in actual ceremony. The Beach/Ocean are so beautiful and  having that crisp/simple background makes for some amazing pictures.

2)  I had the best photographer! Do your research! I was in contact several times with our photographer for several months before our big day. So when the day did come she knew exactly what we wanted.  I recommend her highly! She even did a bridal sitting photo-shoot the day before our wedding! :) Here is our photographer’s site:  http://lisaarnoldphotography.com/main.html

3) If you are flying to your destination buy a Wedding dress that can travel easy,  My dress had gathered tulle/organza? on the bottom so it didn’t wrinkle through the carrying through the airports/planes.  Plus Call ahead and see if they will hang dress in cockpit for you.  (The airline told me they would hang dress for me on both flights but when we boarded second plane they made me shove the dress under the seat which had me in tears)  Another option is to ship dress to destination but that makes me nervous.

4)  Since you won’t “see” your flowers until the Day of the Ceremony. Ask your florist to make up a bouquet for you and email a picture.  Mine did not and in fact changed/left out a lot of ideas we had discussed so when My flowers were picked up by a family member and when they arrived I was very disappointed.  My bouquets were supposed to have ”sea weed” and sea shells in the bouquets and they did not!

5)  Incorporate your destination into the ceremony.  I found my earrings in a local boutique located on the outer banks as well as a bracelet I wore on the ceremony day. ( I had brought another set) But the “locals” do a great job of capturing the “feeling” of the place you are getting married  and those small touches really help add something special to your day.

6) Think outside the box (my husband and groomsmen all wore starfish boutonnières, our wedding cake was key lime..etc)

7)  For a Beach wedding I think a sand ceremony is the best option.  The pastor we used and loved had huge sea shells that we used to scoop sand into a turquoise bottle so we have sand from the very spot we were married.  Then if you go back to visit you can add sand to the bottle later.  Here is the link for Rev. Jay Bowman:  http://myouterbanksweddings.com/  He was fantastic! Also a neat way way to remember loved ones who have passed is to draw there name in the sand in a border of sea shells! :)

8) Rent a beach house that allows Weddings.  That way if you have bad weather on your day you can get married at one of the gorgeous beach homes.  Most of these homes are gorgeous! We used:  http://www.corollaclassicvacations.com/  but there are several Rental Companies for the Outerbanks (I just googled Outer banks Rental)

9)  Research, Research, Research!  I spent a lot of time on my computer, emailing and browsing to find the right services for my day.  I used this website a lot!:  http://www.outerbanksweddingassoc.org/  Has a list of vendors, resources for your special day on the Outer Banks.

There is something magical about the Outer Banks and I hope this post was a bit helpful.  I wish Pinterest was around “back in the day” LOL!  Can you imagine all the fun beachy stuff I could of done with my Mason Jars!!!???!!!

There’s no place like…Kansas Ep. 1

Born and Raised in Northern Illinois (a hop skip and a jump from Chicago) establishing new roots in the K-State has been interesting!  I must say it is more “remote” “quiet” here but the people are a little friendlier and sometimes you can catch a glimpse of the past and the “good old days”  My husband’s family is from Western Kansas and I am amazed each time we visit how beautiful this little corner of Kansas really can be.  I’m going to share some pictures that my husband and I have captured from past visits!

We are planning another visit soon and I’m Eager to take some shots with the new camera!

Mason Jars in My Home!

I love Mason Jars!  They remind me of my childhood, they come in my favorite color, I can do so  many fun and pretty crafts/décor with them! I just love them!  I grew up in the midst of my parents love of antiques.  My sister and I spent many weekends browsing dusty shelves in small little shops with our parents.  Both of us trying to be on our best behaviors so we could convince my Dad to buy us an ice cream later; we would look at old toys and costume jewelry while my parents browsed antique glass and furniture.

Mason Jars just are a little slice of my childhood and look pretty in my home! :)

You can buy your own jars here at my shop
